SBIRT Training Modules

UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Program Training Links for SBIRT, contracted by the State of California to do SBIRT trainings around the state. They have a list on on-line training opportunities.
OHSU: Online video, powerpoint, and group discussion resources. Takes about 2 hours
BU: An excellent multimedia curriculum from Boston University with embedded videos demonstrating motivational interviewing adapted to primary care.
NIAAA: 4 excellent video cases that demonstrate the recommendations of the Clinician's Guide (below). Each case is about 10 minutes.

For patients who are or may be candidates for buprenorphine (Suboxone) treatment, please call the Martinez specialty care coordinator at 925 370 5988 (voice mail). Please leave the patient's name, MR#, telephone number and a brief statement about the nature of the referral. Also, fax a MR 191-8 to 925 370 5529. (To be considered for buprenorphine, a patient must want to no longer be interested in using opioids to get high, be psychiatrically stable, and allow urine toxicology testing.)

At this time, Ken Saffier, MD, is only taking chronic pain management referrals from residents. If you are a resident, please follow the above for these referrals and leave the days and times you will be in your FMC for the next 2 rotations and the best means of contacting you. If you are a staff physician or nurse practitioner with a chronic pain management referral, feel free to contact Ken Saffier to discuss your patient and the alternatives for obtaining a consultation within and outside of our system.
